Recently, Aedas’ partner Hong Kong Huayi Design Consultants (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. (also known as Huayi Design) celebrated its 35th anniversary and held a forum themed “Promoting Integration and Development of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, Creating A World-Class Bay Area” in Shenzhen, China. Aedas Chairman & Global Design Principal Keith Griffiths delivered a video speech while Global Design Principal Kevin Wang attended the panel session, joining a league of experts and industry leaders to share experiences and innovative solutions for the area’s future development.
Titled “Connecting Hong Kong to Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area”, Keith’s speech is an in-depth dissection of the Greater Bay Area’s potential in becoming a flourishing and livable mega city cluster. Through elaborating on selected Aedas architectural designs, he provides paradigms on which projects can be based to establish seamless inner city links and interconnectivity between Greater Bay Area cities.
Amongst experienced architects and urban planners, Kevin shares the practicalities involved in integration of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, reveals the fundamental challenges faced by designers and outlines a prosperous vision for the future of the Bay Area.
Aedas and Huayi has recently joint-designed the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone East Wing-1 Project sitting at the heart of the newly defined frontier of cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, enjoying great proximity to the New Huanggang Port (where Aedas also served as the lead architect). Inspired by the Chinese idiom – “Plant a parasol tree, comes the phoenix with glee”, the design of this highly connected complex comprising office, residential and retail elements is a metaphor to the concept of hospitality, and signaling shared prosperity between the two cities. The landmark tower recalls the extending gesture of the parasol tree and will become a visual focus and a new iconic gateway between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
For the past decade, Aedas has been at the forefront in suturing cities in the Greater Bay Area, promulgating our ambitions and expertise in pursuit of this great initiative. Aedas will continue to work closely with our partners to develop designs that would benefit local communities and the sustainability of our living habitat at large.
