Dr Andy Wen shares insights on designing story-telling architecture with Taiwan Economic Daily News

Timeless architecture is designed in response to the local context, with a unique story that illustrating the design concepts. Aedas Global Design Principal Dr. Andy Wen believes bespoke designs make urban icons, incorporating functionality, culture and technology.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Andy Wen has been creating masterpieces in Taiwan and Mainland of China. As an experienced architect with diverse cultural background, Andy shared with Taiwan Economic Daily News, “It is essential for contemporary architectural designs to integrate local history, creating city icons with authentic characteristic.” Architecture, especially public buildings, should take account of the local culture to create a landmark that is for everyone. Instead of commercial buildings, Andy is keen on creating cultural destinations as they carry the collective memories, culture and aesthetics of the place. These projects tell stories to visitors through their architectural language.

Andy adds, “I am delighted to have accumulated a diverse project portfolio, including Lè Architecture in Taiwan, which is inspired by the river pebbles. It conveys the idea of roundness and elegance, as well as strength and characters.” Andy has also worked on National Trade Center in Taiwan, which has an oval-shaped building form replicating the silhouette of a bamboo. Every design has its own concept that creates a sense of place, illustrating stories with functionality.
