The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has recently launched its China Chapter, the organisation’s sixth International Chapter and elected members of the committee. Aedas Global Design Principal Ken Wai has been appointed as the Honorary Chair of RIBA China Chapter.
“It’s an honour and also my responsibility and mission,” says Ken Wai, “architecture is not just a design – it is also a vessel for multifaceted interaction between nature, history, the cities and the citizens. Only through diversity and open communication can we drive the industry forward. This is what RIBA has always been looking forward and devoted to.”
With over 30 years of professional design experience, Ken Wai has led the designs of multiple influential architectural projects across a wide range of sectors in China and around the world. Winning numerous international awards for his prestige designs, Ken has also served as a professional jury member on many well-received awards. As a member of RIBA, he has always been passionate about the growth of young architects. He has served as an External Examiner for the University of Hong Kong and has been frequently invited to speak and share his experience and insight in industry events including lectures, forums and exhibitions.
RIBA China Chapter will launch a “2020 RIBA China 100 Eminent Architect” initiative this year. Assembling leading design talents in the architecture and construction industry, it aims to probe into issues in the urbanisation process of China, to create solutions and to define trends for the future development of our urban environments.
