19 December 2025

Aedas Global Design Principal Ken Wai is invited by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects to give a presentation at the ‘Design Unlimited: Balance of Quality and Sustainability’ forum held in Shanghai.

In his presentation titled ‘The Social Role of Architecture: Redefining Spatial Value through Public Design,’ Ken shares Aedas’ global and regional projects, demonstrating how architectural design connects people, communities, and cities to create socially meaningful and sustainable spaces.

During the panel discussion, Ken and other industry leaders explore how to balance functional upgrades, ecological sustainability, and commercial viability in urban renewal projects. Using the Guangzhou CITIC Shipyard Masterplan Project as an example, Ken explains how the design preserves industrial heritage while creating eco-friendly, livable spaces that energise the area and improve public space quality. He also emphasises that a public-centric design approach is key to reclaiming urban spaces for citizens.
