Aedas Global Design Principal, RIBA Council Member-Asia and Australasia, RIBA China Chapter Honorary Chair, Ken Wai was invited to attend the China International Building and International Design Forum and delivered a keynote speech at Shanghai New International Expo Center. As the most influential contemporaneous event in the Hotel Plus Hotel and Commercial Space Expo, the China International Building and International Design Forum has the theme of “Breakthrough and Symbiosis”, inviting highly influential architects, designers, representatives of real estate development groups in the industry and representatives of hotel management companies deepen industry exchanges and cooperation through multi-dimensional cross-industry dialogues.
With the development of the city, different needs arise. Thus various types of hotels have been developed, and the functions of the hotels have also changed accordingly. In this speech, Ken will take “Seeking New Equilibrium in Contemporary Hospitality Architecture” as the theme to discuss hotel architectural design in a contemporary context and share multiple project cases.
Ken has more than 35 years of professional design experience. He believes that architectural design is a process of constantly finding a balance between rationality and sensibility. Rationality refers to correct judgment based on practice, while perceptuality refers to tasteful aesthetic ability. In each commission he accepts, Ken seeks to first clarify the design goals, and then strive to achieve an ideal balance between accomplishing these goals, achieving functionality and design excellence.
