Aedas Executive Director Huo Ning shares her experiences and insights in the planning and design of TODs on an online webinar. The talk was part of the “TOD Mode for Rail Hub Planning and Development” live event. It was co-organised by the Global Environment Facility Shenzhen Project Office and Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center.

As a leading global architecture firm, Aedas has designed and delivered over 100 rail projects. Aedas combines its global vision, local knowledge and expertise in high-density city designs to develop numerous TOD projects. In these projects, public transportation serve as key drivers and facilitators of urbanisation.

“With urbanisation and growth of population, we are encountering conflicts between needing to sprawl and limited land. Our living and work space has grown increasingly far apart, and we are spending more time and money on commuting. This exerts a lot of pressure on a cities’ public transportation system and scatters public space. This is the drive for Transit-Oriented Developments (TOD) projects, and these projects will support sustainable developments,” said Huo Ning.

To stitch urban space and drive development, an integrated mindset needs to be prioritised when designing TOD projects. Huo Ning further elaborates her ideology with various Aedas rail and TOD projects including the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Chengdu Tianfu New District TOD project and Beijing’s Line 16 Beianhe Depot Comprehensive Development project.
