Ning Huo shares insights on industry challenges

05 March 2025

Aedas Executive Director Ning Huo delivers a keynote speech at the ‘Planners’ Exchange Night,’ an event joined by leaders from the China Association of City Planning (CACP), the CACP’s Overseas Planning and Design Institutions (OPDI) and the Urban Planning Society of Beijing. At the event, Ning discusses the challenges of China’s architecture industry and notes that the industry is evolving with the emerging trends.

To tackle industry challenges, Ning emphasises planners’ unique expertise and their ability to coordinate across fields, which are skills that AI cannot replace. She proposed several strategies: establish technical barriers through specialised positioning; adapting work methods to market changes; avoid undervaluing services and maintain industry integrity; exploring new partnerships; and redefining architects’ roles as value creators, not just ‘drawing tools’.

The event is organised by the CACP’s Overseas Planning and Design Institutions (OPDI) and Planning and Design Professional Committee, in collaboration with Aedas and other organisations. Over 50 representatives from planning firms, industry associations, universities, and companies attend.
