Tsinghua University’s rural revitalization Chongqing Rongchang Workstation

05 January 2021

Tsinghua University’s rural revitalization Chongqing Rongchang Workstation is gradually taking shape, after months of construction. In the recent Rongchang Summit of the Rural Revitalization Forum hosted by the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, the workstation under construction served as a sub-venue of the Tsinghua special session, attracting many participants and villagers to visit.

The workstation was originally a dilapidated house at the heart of the village. Under the guidance of Aedas Global Design Principal Dr Andy Wen, students from the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University made bold creative decisions to extend the venue based on its original layout. The place provides various community services, as well as serves as a public venue for functions and activities.
“The workstation will become a platform for the villagers to interact, and it should serve as a way in which they could foster a sense of community. We would love to see villagers meandering in the courtyard, soaking in the sun and bonding with each other,” students from the design team said.

As an advisor of this Rural Revitalization Project, Aedas Global Design Principal Dr Andy Wen commented, “The end result is important to us in the sense that we envision the workstation to become the go-to spot for villagers to have fun and hang out. But what is equally meaningful to us as an architectural design practice is that the students could walk away from this projects with valuable takeaways, and continue to grow as aspiring architects.”
