Aedas Director Zhihong Lin attends the Bau Congress China (BCC) 2025 in Shanghai, sharing insights on how innovative design can transform unconventional spaces into vibrant retail engines.
The design of commercial spaces is no longer confined to traditional layouts or fixed forms under scarce urban spatial resources. Zhihong suggests that multi-dimensional, flexible, and integrated approaches should be adopted, ‘Architecture should be a lively building that encourages engagement with the community.’
Zhihong emphasises that it is important for to design beyond traditional approaches, transforming constrained and irregular sites into vibrant environments including Chengdu Hyperlane, Chongqing Xinhua Bookstore Mixed Use Project and Zhuhai Hengqin CRCC Plaza. The projects highlight the concept of an urban living room which extends to functionality and experiences. He says, ‘Architects should design dynamic spaces to enhance urban vitality for the community.’
