The project is a redevelopment of a 123.5 acres site with Exhibition Halls integrated to a Congress Centre with a capacity of 13,500 people. Strategically planned around a large central courtyard – opened to Delhi’s prevailing wind direction, the 100,000 sq m of exhibition space are organized in two levels of Exhibition Halls. Each building ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 sq m, and are connected at ground level by a protective pergola.
The Convention Center was designed as a contemporary Indian icon, showing the nation’s approach to its future, while respecting timeless Indian architectural traditions: The use of circular geometry for buildings of public and civic importance, the integration of water and stepped public spaces, colonnades, ancient symbology, and the locally sourced material with traditional colours.
