As host of the FIFA World Cup 2022, Doha expanded Hamad International Airport (HIA), completing the Central Concourse Expansion Project to handle over 58 million passengers annually. The LEED Silver-certified, GSAS 4-Star-rated design features an 85m column-free grid shell roof allowing natural light and climate control. A 6,000 sqm indoor tropical garden with over 300 trees, a 125m sky bridge, and water features offers a serene experience. Taking inspiration from the waves of desert dunes, the profiled roof of the central concourse serves not only aesthetic but also a functional purpose, funneling down to the ground to improve water and sand drainage from the desert winds.
