Hong Kong Jockey Club Happy Valley and Shatin Racecourses Renovation

Hong Kong / PRC

The renovation of M1 and M2 Buildings at the Happy Valley Racecourse consisted of two prestige owner’s restaurants, one owner’s pavilion, member’s lounge and restaurants. New external glass lifts were installed and associated areas were renovated.

At the Shatin Racecourse, the renovation included two grandstands, members’ facilities and a large central track that encloses the beautifully landscaped Penfold Park. The grandstands offer panoramic views across the track and park.

It also involves the construction of a new public restaurant and cafeteria with associated kitchens within the existing grandstand, and the installation of a new 120 metres by 6 metres glass wall.

Over the Parade Ring, a new retractable roof structure was created and the existing Racing Centre was renovated. A new owner’s lounge was constructed as part of the overall enhancement to the existing facilities.

A satellite centre was also built to reduce services concentration at the main centre. One side of the centre faces the public open space of the neighbouring housing estate and required special treatment to the façade to ensure that it aesthetically complements the public square.

Aedas is the Lead Architectural Consultant of the projects.
