The International Sports and Cultural Exchange Centre in Futian District, Shenzhen, features a 3.6km vertical running track that wraps around the building. It is a landmark community building that integrates sports, culture and social interaction, benefiting from its urban location with convenient subway access and green spaces.
Considering the limited site area and the needs of sports venues, a vertical stacking strategy organises various functional spaces in a high-rise building mass. This design allows independent operation of each program while fostering connectivity through public spaces, creating a perfect ecosystem of sports, industry and community.
The main venue “IN space” is located on the lower floors for easy access, complemented by a public plaza and a multifunctional hall for outdoor large-scale events like music festivals and marathons. The upper levels house six multifunctional venues, including exhibition space, conference hall, an indoor theme park and interactive spaces, linked by a high-altitude atrium and a Super Platform for leisure and congregation.
Together with a rooftop garden and ground-level plaza, these spaces offer a vibrant public domain for civic activities and social interactions. The 3,600 m running track threads all areas, providing a unique exploration route for citizens to enjoy the cityscape at different heights and directions.
By responding to the urban context and citizen needs, the International Sports and Culture Exchange Centre creates a unique city interface and a 24/7 civic space for Shenzhen.
