MTR West Island Line – Sai Ying Pun Station

The West Island Line (WIL) project in Hong Kong is a 3 km extension of MTRC’s existing Island Line featuring 8 car, 5 door trains and 3 new underground stations at University, Sai Ying Pun and Kennedy Town. Aedas have been the Station Architect for WIL since Feasibility Study and Preliminary Design stages. Currently, Aedas is responsible for the Detailed Design of the University and Sai Ying Pun Stations, which are both deep caverns with entrances, vent shafts, and subways that are stitched through and integrated into the surrounding dense urban fabric. This cavern-grade relationship requires both standard entrance configurations and the world’s first high speed / high capacity lift only entrances which move passengers up to 100 m vertically.
