Situated in the heart of Wuhan, Shenjiaji area is the gateway between the Yangtze River New City and the traditional Wuhan City, and it is also a leading exemplar for China’s future cities. Aedas Executive Director Ning Huo and her team tailor-made a pioneering model for Wuhan that showcases its waterfront features and incorporates its urban vibrancy.
After careful exploration and research, the Aedas project team worked together with the owner’s design team to integrate the concept of ‘living by water’ into the design. An all-in-one solution is then formed from conceptual planning to urban design guidelines.
The design is based on the curves of the Zhujia River. Through the interconnection of waterways, it stitches functional areas and public activities organically, maximising the water resources and building a multi-dimensional waterfront space consisting of a watersports park, water valleys, and water streets. Apart from creating a wealth of recreational spaces for the residents, the context of the waterfront space is further deepened with the building forms that are scattered around the waterway. The waterfront offers a close-to-water experience from various magnitudes, creating an ecologically integrated water city with a new dynamic.
